Willy Wonka Jr
AUDITION GUIDELINES
Hey Campers!
If you’re registered to attend Windmill Day Camp the week of Aug. 9-13, you get to be in our showWilly Wonka Jr. There’s a part for everyone! There are also about 24 speaking roles. If you want one of those bigger parts, you get to do an audition. We will practice for the auditions in Drama Class and you can find extra help here.
At the audition, you'll be asked to read a few lines from the script and sing part of a song (if you're trying out for a singing part)
Here's what you can do:
- read the list of characters and descriptions. Decide which part(s) you want to try out for.
Listen to the songs.
Practice singing them on your own here. This is the music you'll have at the audition.
Look at the script pages and song pages we’ll be using at auditions
Important dates and other stuff to know
- Show dates are August 11 & 12. Showtime is 2:45 pm.
- Auditions will be held Wednesday & Thursday, June 30 & July 1 during class. Please print and fill out your audition form and return it to me on or before your audition. On the form, you can circle as many roles as you’re interested in, and you can read for up to three parts (if time permits).
- If you won’t be at camp on the audition days, make arrangements to audition before then (not after).
- Be sure to fill out the sections stating which weeks you will NOT be at camp and which days you can’t stay late. This is really important for making a rehearsal schedule!
- Thursday afternoon or Friday morning the “call back” list will be posted. You get to read or sing again for the Casting Committee (Miss Rhea & Miss Pammy). Usually this is to see how campers from different groups pair up. If you aren’t on the call back list, that doesn’t mean you didn’t get a part!
- Friday Afternoon, July 2, the Cast List will be posted. If you’re unhappy with your role, direct all complaints to Mr. Noah. Just kidding. Don’t forget: sometimes more parts are assigned during later rehearsals.
- Friday Afternoon, July 2 will be the first meeting of the entire cast, probably during Power Hour. Scripts and schedules will be distributed and we’ll read through the entire show.
- Rehearsals are held during class and after camp from 4:15 to 5:45 pm. You won’t be needed at every rehearsal. If you can’t make a practice, or if you have to leave early, please let me know a day ahead of time. We’re on a very tight schedule!
- Being in a show is a lot of fun, but it’s also a big commitment to every other cast member. They’re counting on you to be there and be prepared. Sometimes it’s hard work. You may be called into rehearsal when you’d rather be at ga-ga or Power Hour. At home, you’ll have to study lines, and practice songs and dances. Think about the time and work that goes into performing a major role; make sure it’s what you really want.
- Don’t worry, be happy. It’s just an audition. Relax, smile, and take a deep breath. Remember to speak loudly and clearly, do your best, and have fun! We’re all there for the same reason: to put on ANOTHER AWESOME WINDMILL SHOW!! !
